Why Generation Alpha is Generation Nature

Why Generation Alpha is Generation Nature

Think kids born from 2010 onwards are only interested in digital experiences? Think again.

New research from the UK’s National Trust charity and children’s newspaper First News showed that 76% of children surveyed want to spend more time in nature. But unfortunately a large proportion of parents (63%) are only able to take them once a week or less.

While once a week is better than nothing, lack of proximity to nature (and the cost required for some to get there) means that many children are missing out. Well over a third of the UK’s population—38%—live more than 15 minutes away from green or blue space.

Better lung health and stronger bone density are only two of the physical benefits of getting out into nature, and there are many more indicators suggesting improved mental health.

No wonder around 80% of parents surveyed back The National Trust’s campaign for legislation to make sure everyone can access green or blue space within a 15-minute walk of their homes.

How close to your home is YOUR nearest green or blue space? If it takes less than 15 minutes to get there, you have the most incredible health and wellbeing resource virtually on your doorstep. And if you have Gen Alpha kids who are keen to spend as much time as possible in the great outdoors, follow their lead!
