How our Natural Fruit & Vege Wash restores your produce to its natural state

Unless you grow your own produce, there are a few steps between farm and plate. Even organically grown fruits and vegetables can be exposed to the effects of human handling, drift spray, mould spores, and (naturally) dirt, while conventionally grown produce routinely comes into contact with pesticides, oils, waxes, and agricultural chemicals.

Designed to let you enjoy your produce the way nature intended, our Natural Fruit & Vege Wash safely and effectively removes these agricultural pesticides, oils, waxes, and chemicals, returning your fruits and vegetables to their natural state without leaving any aftertaste behind.

How does our Natural Fruit & Vege Wash work?

Available in both standard and 1L refill sizes, our non-toxic Natural Fruit & Vege Wash works as a gentle wash by combining pure mandarin essential oil with citric acid and plant-based surfactants. The mandarin essential oil and plant-based surfactants work to displace and lift impurities off your produce, eliminating unwanted residue and any lingering odours in a way a simple rinse alone cannot.

Here, we break down ingredients in our Natural Fruit & Vege Wash and explore how they work to create an efficacious, non-toxic, biodegradable formula that restores your produce to its natural state.

Surfactants

Surfactants — which means ‘surface active agent’ — help trap impurities and lift them off surfaces, making them an apt addition to many washing products. Surfactants are what provide our Natural Fruit & Vege Wash with its mild foaming properties, which attract and lift oils, waxes, chemicals, and pesticides off your produce. Oils and waxes, in particular, aren’t lifted by water alone — adding surfactants simplifies removing these.

We use sodium lauroamphoacetate and glucoside in our Natural Fruit & Vege Wash, which are derived from coconut. These food-safe surfactants effectively remove residue without compromising the quality of your produce. In addition to being safe for the whole family, they are completely biodegradable, meaning they won’t contribute to environmental pollution once washed down the drain.

Citric acid

Citric acid is found naturally in citrus fruits such as lemons and limes and is the component that gives them their sharp, sour taste. A natural antibacterial, citric acid helps keep products fresh

Sodium benzoate

Food-grade and water-soluble sodium benzoate acts as a preservative, increasing the shelf life of our Natural Fruit & Vege Wash and ensuring the formula remains stable.

Mandarin essential oil

Mandarin essential oil, like all of our ingredients, is part of the wash and will not remain on your produce. The joyful, uplifting notes of mandarin are a  familiar scent in many Australian households, with this pure essential oil selected for its antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties, which work cohesively with the other plant-based ingredients in our formula to wash off any lingering residue, microbes, and bacteria from your produce.
